TODAY: DC Chapter of the Sierra Club Endorses Initiative 83
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the DC chapter of the Sierra Club announced their endorsement of Initiative 83. The Sierra Club, America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, has approximately 3,000 dues-paying members in DC.
“Confronting the climate crisis and advancing environmental justice require a strong democracy and good governance. Ranked choice voting empowers voters to elect leaders who truly reflect the will of the majority, ensuring that those in office are accountable to all of their constituents, not just a select few,” said Matt Gravatt, Sierra Club DC Chapter chair. “Initiative 83 means more inclusive and representative elections, helping DC elect leaders who are committed to tackling urgent environmental challenges, promoting clean energy, and protecting our natural resources for future generations.”
“We are grateful to the Sierra Club’s DC chapter for their endorsement and their support of our campaign to make politicians work harder for our vote,” said Initiative 83 Proposer Lisa D. T. Rice. “Our grassroots coalition of local chapters and community organizations show how DC voters are fed up with the status quo and know we need a more representative electoral system to have a government capable of solving big problems like the climate crisis.”
DC voters will receive their ballots by postal mail in early October – voters can return their completed ballot by mail or drop it off in a ballot drop box.
- You can also vote in person during early voting (October 28 - November 5) or on Election Day (November 5)
